Since the lemons on our tree started ripening a few weeks ago, I’ve been harvesting them and baking tangy, lemon flavored cakes, cookies and pies.
In English we have many idioms which mention this tart, juicy fruit. You’ve probably heard ‘When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!’ which means to make the most of a bad situation.
Here are some other expressions:
- Lemon Squeezy – something very easy or simple.
‘Learning a new language is lemon squeezy for me.’
- A Lemon – something that is defective or breaks down quickly.
‘My friend gifted me a new blender, but it was a lemon in the end.
- Do me a Lemon! – ‘’You must be joking’’
‘You want me to do all your work for you? Do me a lemon!’
