Summer activities

Janean Fischli, January 15, 2026

Here is an update on what’s going on at Primavera English this January.

As always, the Colonia de Vacaciones is in full swing. This year the students are learning about oceans. They are making some amazing ocean scenes in cardboard boxes, including sea floor vegetation and sea creatures of various kinds. This week they learned about the ring of fire, the fault lines which produce many volcanoes, then created their own volcano with sand, water and baking soda. It was an impressive eruption!

For the younger students, we have a separate group with activities catered to four, five and six year olds. They are learning English through songs, games and activities about nature. In the last class students undertook a Nature Scavenger Hunt, searching the yard for roots, sticks, flowers, leaves and dirt.

New this year, we offered a Cooking in English workshop for 9 to 13 year olds. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough space for all the students who wanted to participate, but hopefully we can offer it again at a later date. So far the class has made the all time favorite: brownies, as well as chocolate chip cookies and apple pie. Not only do the students learn the basics of baking, but they also get to practice writing about their sweet treats while they wait for them to come out of the oven!

As you can see, we are making the most of our summer!
