Pulling someone’s leg

Evelyn Koppschall, February 10, 2025

The expression “to pull someone’s leg” is a common expression you’re sure to hear as you spend time with your English-speaking friends.

If someone tells you they’re pulling your leg, they are saying that they are teasing you, or joking around, or telling you something that isn’t true.

Examples: I panicked when my sister told me her cat had eaten my pet hamster, but then I realized she was just pulling my leg.

Don’t listen to him; he’s just pulling your leg.
