My young students’ favorite part of class is visiting Messi, our resident parrot and assistant English teacher. During class, we often go outside and spend a few minutes talking to Messi, trying out what we have been learning. As well as breaking up our class with something fun and exciting, these Messi conversations are great because my students are eager to talk to him – it’s not as intimidating as practicing English with another person. Besides, his Spanish is pretty good but his English needs practice, just like my students, so they feel like they are helping him learn, which is a great motivation for them to excel in their own English studies.
