It’s spring and once again we have a set of cute, energetic baby goats running around our yard. For younger students this is one of the most popular elements of coming to Primavera English.
Students enjoy feeding them milk from bottles, holding them and watching them run and jump in the grass. Here are some interesting facts about goats.
Did you know?
- Although goats have a name for eating almost anything, they are actually picky eaters, and won’t eat anything dirty. We have noticed this with our own goats. When a leaf or branch falls to the ground of their pen, they won’t touch it, even if it is something they generally like, for instance banana peels.
- Goats are very agile and sure footed. Our baby goats climb up into the play house and slide down the slide. On the other side of the world in Morocco, goats famously climb trees to eat the fruit of the argan tree, and spit out the nuts, which farmers then use to make argan oil.
- When goats feel threatened, they sneeze to send an alarm.
- If you look closely at a goat's pupils, you will notice they are rectangular. This is to increase their peripheral vision.
