Flashcard Fun

Some of the favorite resources of our young learners’ teachers are flashcards. They are great for teaching a wide range of vocabulary, from the basics, like weather, to more advanced topics, such as nature or hobbies. Not only are flashcards incredibly versatile, but the various games and activities also incorporate visual, auditory and kinesthetic instruction, providing options for all types of learners to master the vocabulary.

Slap, popular for its high action and competition, is one example. Here is how it works. All the flashcards are placed picture side up on the table. The teacher says one of the words, and the first student to slap their hand down on the card gets it. The aim of the game is to get the most cards. A variation is to have a student say the words, so they get speaking practice as well.
