In our class, Val and I recently read a story about a girl who went on a trip and then wrote letters home about her adventures. We became inspired to write our own letters – but neither of us had recently traveled anywhere! What to do?
In our next class, I brought a handful of photos, each one depicting some kind of travel adventure. Val picked a picture of a horse in a beautiful mountain landscape, and I chose a photo of a whale watching excursion. Finally putting pen to paper, we each wrote a letter to describe the epic journeys and activities we imagined for ourselves based on the photos.
Besides sending us on imaginary adventures, this fun activity provided good descriptive writing practice and taught Val the basics of letter writing (an ancient but useful – and classy! – skill).
We hope you enjoy reading our letter journeys below!
