Word of the month: Travel/Trip

Travel

verb

To go from one place to another, typically over a distance of some length.
Recently several of Primavera English teachers have traveled to Peru and Bolivia.

noun

The action of traveling.
My job doesn’t require much travel, but I enjoy going places on vacation.

Although travel can be used as a noun, when we speak about going somewhere  and returning, we usually use the word trip. For example, we say “How was your trip?” not “How was your travel?” or “I had a trip last week, so I couldn't attend class.” not “I had a travel.”

During the last few months, some of the teachers had the opportunity to visit Peru and Bolivia. Here are some of their highlights.

Teacher Hela: “While I was in Peru, the country celebrated Pisco Sour Day, so I enjoyed sampling a glass of the National cocktail.”

Teacher Evelyn: “I enjoyed having the real experience of the Altiplano in Bolivia  rather than the touristy perspective. We got cold and dirty harvesting potatoes, and then shared  warm soup with our kind hosts.”

Teacher Hanna: “The views of the steep, rocky slopes covered with yellow flowering plants with the occasional glimpse of Ilumani were stunning.”
